The cliffhanger that Oshi no Ko Season 2 left us with is no joke, especially if you’re an anime-only watcher! Things were so intense that we were all at the edge of our seats, and fans could not stop thinking about what would come next. Luckily for those who managed to abstain from the manga, Season 3 of Oshi no Ko has finally been officially announced, and we couldn’t be more hyped about it!
The Basics
Starting with the basics, Season 3 will also be a TV anime series that follows the events of the source manga. As usual, it will belong to the drama genre and explore the themes of reincarnation and showbiz. We expect it to receive a rating similar to its predecessors, PG-13, for teenagers 13 years or older. It will be the sequel to Oshi no Ko Season 2, adapting the Oshi no Ko manga series, and we will definitely be seeing more of Hoshino Aquamarine, Hoshino Ruby, and Arima Kana. We will get to bask in the glorious work of original series creator Akasaka Aka and original character designer Yokoyari Mengo.
The breathtaking announcement came alongside a brand-new visual and a PV, both teasing us about what’s to come. It dropped exactly on October 6, 2024, at the very end of Episode 24 of Oshi no Ko Season 2. Unfortunately, we still do not have a proper release date, but we can speculate based on past patterns. Since Season 1 aired in April 2023 and Season 2 came out in July 2024, we can expect to see Season 3 sometime around April–July 2025.
You can check out the awe-inspiring PV below if you haven’t already. We didn’t see much, but we caught glimpses of the main players and the major vibes for the season. Hopefully, we’ll get a more detailed trailer in a month or two, but don’t hold your breath!
Update: Ok, here’s the latest trailer!
What to Expect from the Story
We do not have full details yet, but we can make an educated guess! Based on the manga’s structure, we can expect this season to cover the Mainstay Arc, Scandal Arc, and Movie Arc. Since Season 2 adapted both the Tokyo Blade Arc and Private Arc, covering Chapters 41 to 80, it’s only natural that the sequel will continue from where it left off, covering approximately 40 more chapters.
You can expect the Mainstay Arc to probe deeper into Aqua’s darker side, highlighting his calculating, manipulative, and revenge-driven nature. Meanwhile, we will also see more of Ruby’s challenging journey through the entertainment industry, including her appearance on a web variety show alongside Aqua. As the wheels of fate begin to turn, the deep, dark secrets of the Hoshino family, long shrouded in mystery, will gradually be revealed. This is particularly emphasized by the major reveal at the Season 2 finale: Hikaru Kamiki! It should come as no surprise that he has a significant role to play in this story, so buckle up and get ready!
Fun Facts About Hikaru Kamiki
- “Hikaru” translates to brightness, radiance, shine, sparkle, gleam, or twinkle in Japanese.
- “Kamiki” literally means god or deity and tree or wood.
- He was born in Kanagawa and graduated from the Faculty of Science, adding even more brains to the family.
- He is 178 cm tall, first appearing in the manga in Chapter 72 and in the anime in Episode 22.
Moving on, there are many new characters for us to meet this season. They include, but are not limited to, the young assistant director Shun Yoshizumi, his VTuber sister Mimi Yoshizumi, and many more. Each of these new additions will heighten the already sky-high stakes and offer a deeper look into the highly toxic underbelly of showbiz—whether we like it or not.
The Team Behind the Show
Speaking of the characters and Hikaru’s VA, there’s no way we can ignore the legendary team fueling this show. Of course, we can expect the reliable Studio Doga Kobo to deliver killer art and animation while maintaining the signature flair that has come to define the Oshi no Ko franchise. Worry not—talented director Daisuke Hiramaki is back to ensure the best quality as usual.
In the sound and music department, we can expect another round of bangers. The songs will be sure to immerse you in the Oshi no Ko atmosphere, while Takuro Iga’s direction will ensure that all the music flows seamlessly through your audio devices.

What Is Oshi no Ko About?
The ever-popular series follows a group of fictional celebrities and those associated with them within the beautiful yet dark world of showbiz. By now, most of us are aware that celebrities often present exaggerated versions of themselves to the public. They have little choice but to hide their true thoughts and feelings beneath a perfect facade, burying their real struggles under a pile of elaborate lies to appear more appealing to fans. Audiences love such fabrications, as they paint their stars and idols as flawless beings worthy of their undying love and support. But once the glorious illusion cracks, everything starts to fall apart…
The story focuses on a 16-year-old idol named Ai Hoshino, who is rising to fame within a pop idol group called B Komachi. The group has already captivated the globe, so when Ai suddenly announces a hiatus due to health concerns, it sparks widespread concern. Just like many of her fans, a gynecologist named Gorou Amemiya continues to support and cheer Ai on during her time of difficulty from his countryside medical institution.
As he spends his days hoping to meet his idol in person, his wish comes true in the most unexpected way—Ai herself arrives at his hospital. However, she is not sick; she is pregnant with twins! As a professional, he vows to help the young girl deliver her children safely, but what he doesn’t realize is that this fateful encounter will change his life forever… and their connection takes an even more unexpected turn.
What You’ll Take Away
There’s no doubt that Oshi no Ko Season 3 will deliver a compelling personal drama alongside sharp industry commentary, elevating the show to new heights. The greatest strength of the series lies in its seamless blend of two seemingly disparate topics—showbiz and reincarnation—into one coherent and emotionally engaging narrative.
Aqua’s dangerous journey to uncover his family’s secrets and Ruby’s struggle to rise in the entertainment industry are sure to keep viewers engaged. The introduction of new characters will further complicate things, and most of us are not ready for the skeletons hiding in the closet! The tension between these spectacular characters is rising like The Rising of the Shield Hero, and the way this series explores the morally gray aspects of fame is precisely why we’re here! It also serves as a grim reminder of the disastrous effects of revenge on those caught in its merciless grasp…
